A SUBURBAN ICON IS REBORN
Remember those restaurant days of good food, pleasant
service and a welcoming smile. All this with no boy racers
and even adjacent car parking.
One of Hamilton’s few restaurants outside of the
city centre has now been given a breath of fresh air with
new owners, management and service standards.
Graham and Liz McFarlane, along with Bill McDonald and
partner Grace Chan opened the new En Q at a gala cocktail
party on January 18th, with 220 past patrons and local
entities invited to re-launch this local favourite.
Graham, as a senior lecturer at Wintecs Centre for Hospitality
saw the opportunity at En Q, and joined forces with well
respected chef tutor Bill to form a partnership that will
revive this suburban icon. Grace, also from a hospitality
background along with Liz carrying out the finance function
complete the partnership.
The restaurant will focus on providing the mature market
an opportunity to dine and converse in tranquil surroundings.
The contemporary menu features a good selection of well-balanced
dishes along with some creative wine matching to enhance
the dining experience.
“There are very few restaurants where you can enjoy
good food and service whilst enjoying the company you
are with. Our philosophy from the start was to provide
a dining experience where people can relax and enjoy the
event, rather than feel that you need to get out as soon
as possible’ says Graham. “We are endeavouring
to address those issues that we dislike when we go out
to dinner ourselves.”
The initial response to the launch has been spectacular,
with businesses selecting the
restaurant for lunches instead of fighting the traffic
in the city. Evening bookings are
essential as the restaurant is booked out most evenings.
“We believe that to succeed we need to be consistent
in our food and service, which is why we chosen have to
operate over 5 days. Better to be good on five days than
average on seven” says Bill.
En Q is open Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner.
